Before you start

FootageMark is designed as a Chrome Side Panel extension. It works with specific recorded-video integrations rather than every website that happens to contain a video element. In v1.0.0, the advertised scope is YouTube standard watch videos, compatible Vimeo recorded videos, and Rumble recorded video pages.

Installation: FootageMark is now available on the Chrome Web Store. Open the official listing ↗

1. Open a supported recorded video

Navigate to a supported recorded-video page, then open FootageMark from the Chrome toolbar or Side Panel entry point after installation. Live streams are intentionally excluded because they do not have the same fixed-duration timeline semantics.

2. Set the In point

At the moment you want a range to begin, press [ while the video page or FootageMark panel has keyboard focus, or use the Set In control in the Side Panel. FootageMark reads the media element’s actual playback position at that moment.

3. Finish the clip

Move to the end of the useful moment and press ] or click Finish Clip. After an In point is pending, the Side Panel changes state so the required next action is clear.

When Chrome UI owns keyboard focus

Bare [/] cannot be intercepted while focus is outside the page and Side Panel. Use the Chrome command fallbacks Alt+Z for Set In and Alt+X for Set Out. Chrome allows users to remap extension commands, and operating-system or Chrome shortcut conflicts can take priority.

4. Add context

New clips appear at the top of the project. Edit a clip to choose a type — Quote, B-roll, Evidence, Hook, Reaction, or Reference — and optionally add a note that gives an editor useful context.

5. Set the handoff order

Use Move Up / Move Down to arrange clips in the order you want them to appear in the Source Pack. The project can include multiple source videos and supported platforms.

6. Build the Source Pack

Preview and copy the structured Source Pack when you want a human-readable handoff. For file-based workflows, export Markdown or CSV. Source Pack output includes range timing and source context; it does not include video files.

7. Back up local work

Projects are stored locally in Chrome extension storage. Use JSON backup when you want an external copy of the workspace. Restore validates the backup structure before loading it.
